Feather, teardrop or blade flag: how to choose

Compare the curved feather, rounded teardrop and upright blade shapes, then choose a listed size, print side and base for your display location.

A promotional flag can mark a booth, storefront or event entrance, but its outline affects how your message sits on the fabric. PromoMogul offers feather, teardrop and blade flags, each with its own set of listed heights. Start with the shape and the space, then decide whether a single-sided print and ground stake match how people will see and use it.

Choose the shape that suits your message

Feather: a tall, curved profile

Feather flags have a curved shape that narrows near the top. The product page lists 9 ft, 12 ft and 15 ft options. The printed areas are about 26 by 91 inches, 31 by 127 inches and 30 by 158 inches, respectively. The long face gives a logo and a short line of copy a vertical arrangement. Think logo near the upper area with only a few words beneath it, rather than a paragraph of small text.

Teardrop: a rounded top

Teardrop flags have a rounded top held open by a curved pole. The site lists 8 ft, 10 ft and 14 ft sizes. Its guide describes the broader face as a useful shape for a round or square logo. If your design is centered around a compact mark, compare the teardrop template with the long, narrow feather layout before you choose.

Blade: a straight upright edge

Blade flags keep a tall, straight shape. They are listed in 11 ft and 16 ft sizes, and the product page presents this upright face for a message that should read vertically, such as a wordmark or short line of text. Its straight profile gives the three styles a noticeably different silhouette, so compare the product imagery with your planned location before settling on one.

Remember that flag height is not print height

The listed size is the nominal height of the assembled flag, not the dimensions of the printed fabric. The feather page provides approximate print sizes by height; the teardrop and blade pages direct shoppers to request the artwork template for the exact print area. Get the template for your chosen style and size before finalizing a layout, particularly if a logo or line of text needs to fit within a specific area.

Each style uses 110 g knitted polyester flag fabric with full-color dye-sublimation printing. The print is single sided by default in the product comparison. The reverse of a single-sided flag shows the design backward, so words and most logos will not read correctly from the back. That works when the main viewing direction is clear. If people approach from either direction, choose double-sided printing; the site says both sides can carry the same or different artwork.

What is included in the kit?

The complete flag kit includes the printed flag, fiberglass poles and a ground stake. Assemble the pole sections, slide the flag over them and set the pole into the base. The ground stake is intended for soft ground such as grass or dirt. On concrete, pavement or an indoor floor, the product pages specify an X base with a water bag instead. That base replaces the ground stake.

The product pages also offer a printed flag by itself. This is for replacing a flag when you already have compatible poles. If your existing poles came from another supplier, check the fit with PromoMogul before ordering a print-only flag. The product pages do not sell poles and bases separately.

Indoor or outdoor placement

The flag guide describes these advertising flags as made for outdoor use. It also says to take them down in stronger wind and let a wet flag dry before storing it. The product specifications list a wind rating of about 18 to 23 mph and say to take the flag down in stronger wind.

For a hard, flat surface or indoor floor, the site specifies the X base with water bag instead of the ground stake. The blade product description explicitly notes indoor and outdoor settings. Before using any flag indoors, check the venue's rules and available floor space, and choose a base intended for that surface.

Quick choice guide

  • Choose feather for a curved vertical shape and a design that can stack a logo with a short message.
  • Choose teardrop for the rounded top and a centered round or square mark.
  • Choose blade for a straight upright shape and a short wordmark or line of copy.
  • Choose single sided when the main audience sees the front. Select double sided when the message needs to read from both directions.
  • Choose the ground stake for grass or dirt, and the X base with water bag for hard, flat surfaces, including indoor floors.

Before ordering, confirm the flag's nominal height, review the artwork template, select the print side and match the base to the ground. Shop feather, teardrop and blade flags to compare the available options.
