Pillowcase or pop up backdrop: which booth backdrop should you buy?

A booth backdrop can be a fabric wall that slips over a frame, a pop up frame with fabric wrapped around its front and ends, or a banner stretched between poles. All three give you a branded background, but they pack and assemble differently. For a compact indoor booth, compare the measured footprint, how the graphic attaches, and what people can see from the sides before choosing.

This guide focuses on the 8 ft class. The size name is a display class, not an exact width or height. Check the product measurements against the booth wall, nearby tables, ceiling and event rules. If your event needs a different width, the same product pages also list other size choices.

Three formats, three different setups

Straight pillowcase tension fabric

The 8 ft straight pillowcase backdrop measures about 90 x 90 inches. Its lightweight aluminum frame connects with push button fittings and labeled joints, then stands on slim swivel feet. You slide the printed stretch polyester knit over the frame like a pillowcase. The fabric contours to the frame for a smooth face.

Choose this style when you want the option of printing both sides, or when a clean, continuous fabric face suits the booth. It is the only one of these three options with a double sided graphic option. That can help when people will see the wall from both directions, such as when the booth is open on two sides. A single sided graphic makes sense when the backdrop sits against a wall.

Straight pop up with end caps

The 8 ft straight pop up backdrop measures 89 x 89 x 12 inches. Its aluminum frame uses nylon plastic hubs. Open the frame, then attach the stretch polyester knit graphic with hook and loop fasteners. The graphic covers the front and both 11.81 inch end caps, so it returns around the sides. The back of the frame remains uncovered.

Pick this design when you want a self standing wall with visible printed returns at the ends. The graphic is single sided. If the rear of the display will be in view, plan its placement so the uncovered frame back faces away from visitors.

Step and repeat banner stand

The 8 x 8 ft step and repeat banner stand uses a fabric banner printed at 92 x 92 inches. A telescoping stand holds it with poles that pass through pockets sewn along the top and bottom. Set the poles to the banner, then position the stand where the wall should be. The product includes the printed banner, stand and travel bag.

The banner is single sided. Its pole pockets are part of the visible graphic, so account for those seams when placing logos near the top and bottom. If you need a larger wall, a 10 x 8 ft option prints at 116 x 92 inches.

Compare the footprint and travel details

For the 8 ft class, the pillowcase frame is about 90 inches wide and tall. The pop up is 89 inches wide, 89 inches tall and 12 inches deep. The step and repeat banner prints 92 inches wide and tall, while the stand supports it. These measurements are close in width, but their depth and structure differ. Leave enough room for the pop up's 12 inch display depth and the feet or stand supporting the other formats.

Travel may guide the decision as much as the finished display. The pillowcase listing gives its packed 10 ft backdrop, including the frame, graphic and soft bag, at about 34 lbs, packed about 32 x 11 x 11 inches. The pop up's 8 ft shipping package is listed at 12 x 12 x 35 inches and 24 lbs. The banner stand packs into its travel bag, and the product page does not give an 8 ft packed measurement. Check your vehicle or storage space with the listed dimensions, and do not assume the bags or boxes for the three products are interchangeable.

The banner stand works when a pole supported fabric sign suits the booth and you want a separate, portable wall piece.

Use the actual dimensions above rather than treating “8 ft” as an exact fit.
